IAF attends Perugia International Film Festival preview

The first annual Perugia International Film Festival (PIFF) will be held on March 22-25 in 2012. Steve Acunto, President of the IAF and Honorary Committee Member for PIFF, attended the festival’s prelaunch on October 1-2 this year, with Vice President of the IAF Claudia Palmira. The weekend preview included screenings, discussions and parties attended by internationally renowned artists, filmmakers and photographers. Guests included James Acheson (Oscar-winning costume designer), Rajendra Roy (Chief Curator of the MoMA Department of Film), Kim Brizzolara (Director of the Hamptons International Film Festival), Jennifer Ahn (Managing Director of The Film Foundation) and artist Bruce Weber, among others.

“Perugia is not only one of the most breathtaking Italian hill towns with a history of artistic achievement and culinary tradition,” said Festival Artistic Director Karen Arikian. “It is also the dynamic home of two internationally renowned universities and a number of significant festivals, which provide the platform for PIFF to grow significantly.”

The astonishing history of Perugia, located in central Italy, dates back to the third century BC during the Etruscan period. Today, the town is recognized for its accredited universities who will be active participants in the festivities.

The cutting-edge project will focus on honoring costume and production designers of award-winning and highly credited films, a subtle profession the committee feels is not too often commended. Furthermore, PIFF will pay tribute to groundbreaking films, technological innovation, architecture and sculpture, along with honoring the city’s music, culture, people and food.

Stay tuned for more on the IAF Cultural Journey that will include attendance at the PIFF.
