Antonio Canova at the Met Museum
Appearing for the first time in the United States, seven reliefs by the great Neoclassical sculptor Antonio Canova are on exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, NY. Renowned for his sensual, marble depictions of mythological figures, Canova made these currently featured Biblical scenes for the Tempio Canoviano in his hometown Possagno. The full-scale reliefs – of which only seven of 32 wee completed in his life – are the artist’s final works.
