Amidst a break from high cases during the pandemic, the world famous Carnevale festival is set to return to Venice almost in full swing. The events over Saturday February 12th to Tuesday March 1st will take place with a mixture of in-person and virtual platforms.

Massimo Checchetto is the official creative director of the 2022 festival, marking the theme as “Remember the Future.” This theme is based off of the quote from Salvador Dalí, “And most of all I remember the future.” Checchetto remarks that one must constantly be turning corners while walking the narrow streets of Venice, just as they must always be thinking of the future with each turn. Checchetto also encourages guests to take part in the common theme of Carnevale that is taking part in surreal and creative events with the freedom of anonymity; “A journey, a set of ideas for embracing the dream of beauty” – Massimo Checchetto.

The events during each weekend include resident performances of music, circus-theater, puppetry, acrobatics, and clowning. One of the largest components of Carnevale, the Venetian Water Festival, will showcase the elements of air, earth, water, and fire as it dazzles spectators with a stunning performance. These upcoming shows will take place on February 19th, 20th, and 24th-1st.
