Each year, Italy crowns a city of beauty its Capital of Culture. This prestigious award is received based on a city’s representation of Italian culture and is handed out usually to those that are rich in history. Parma received the honor consecutively in 2020 and 2021 – but 2022 has brought a new candidate; Procida, the first ever island to win.

Procida is located in the Gulf of Naples, with origins dating back to 15th Century BCE. It has been host to famous films such as Il Postino and The Talented Mr. Ripley. The Capital of Culture commission remarked that the island “is capable of conveying a poetic message, a vision of culture that reaches out from the tiny reality of an island as a well-wish for all of us, for the country, in the months to come.”
