Four New Members Elected to La Scuola’s Board of Trustees
On February 26, 2015, Giancarlo Bruno, Hon. William J. Martini, Luigi Rosabianca and Dr. Bette Talvacchia, PhD. were elected by unanimous vote to the Board of Trustees of New York’s only Italian language school, La Scuola d’Italia Gugliemo Marconi’s Board of Trustees.
Giancarlo Bruno is the Senior Director at the World Economic Forum in New York, an international institution for public and private cooperation where he is also a member of the Management Committee. He has previously worked with the Italian Institute of Statistics, the United Nations and the European Parliament. He serves as a member of the University Club of New York and the Bretton Woods Committee and is an Honorary Fellow of the Foreign Policy Association.
Hon. William J. Martini served as a Senior United States district court judge of the District of New Jersey from November 2002 to February 2015. His high profile cases include NYPD surveillance of Muslims and the corruption trial of Former Newark mayor Sharpe James. He previously represented New Jersey’s 8th Congressional District in the US House of Representatives from 1995 to 1997.
Luigi Rosabianca is the Co-Founder of WIRE Consulting, an international real estate consultancy and Principal Broker of the WIRE International Realty, the firm’s international brokerage division. He is also the Vice President of the Italy-America Chamber of Commerce and serves on their Board of Directors. He additionally works with several charities, including the American-Italian Cancer Foundation and the Boys’ Towns of Italy.
Dr. Bette Talvacchia, PhD. is a Distinguished Professor and Professor Emerita of Art History at the University of Connecticut. She was previously a fellow at Villa I Tatti, Princeton, The Metropolitan Museum and the Center for Advanced Study in the Visual Arts at the National Gallery. Her recent publication Raphael is widely considered a definitive work on the artist and his masterpieces.
These four new members join Chairman Stefano Acunto (who is also our Italian Academy Foundation Chairman), Vice Chairman Piera Palazzolo, Secretary Dr. Pascal J. de Caprariis, MD, FAAFP, Carlo Mantica, Dr. Richard Marrotta PhD., Hon Justice Dominic Massaro, Thomas Pecora, Dr. Francesca Verga, MD and Baronessa Mariuccia Zerilli-Marimo.
La Scuola was founded in 1977 by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and serves the bilingual Italian-American community in the New York City area. The independent, private school is comprised of 300 students Pre-K through grade 12 who take classes in both English and Italian and, upon graduation, receive a high school diploma officially recognized by Italy and the United States.
