Monica M. Mandelli Among 20 Women Honored by the Society of Foreign Consuls
Twenty women from different countries were honored by the Society of Foreign Consuls in New York City on March 6 as part of the International Women’s Day celebration. The honorees received a Certificate of Recognition for their role in community empowerment and profound individual achievements. Monica M. Mandelli, Managing Director at Goldman Sachs, received the honor from Italy’s Consul General in New York, the Hon. Natalia Quintavalle.
“I am pleased to commend the Society’s significant charitable contributions and ongoing efforts to promote gender equality, cultivate community, and deepen the ties between New York City and its thriving consular community over the past 90 years.” said New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio of the ceremony.
Mandelli earned a BS and MS summa cum laude from Milan’s Università Bocconi in Economics and Social Science and an MBA, with distinction, from Harvard Business School. She was raised in a small town outside of Milan. “I’ve always been a very ambitious woman. And I’ve always thought women were undervalued and knew it was important for a woman, if she had the desire and capability, to try to have a big career.”
She has been the Managing Director since 2007 and is the Global Head of the Family Office Coverage and Strategic Relationship Management Group within the Investment Banking Division. Additionally, she is the Co-Head of the Firmwide’s Women Network, where she works to increase networking opportunities and access to senior management for junior businesswomen in the banking sector.
“Find what is unique in your style and turn up the volume a couple of notches,” advises Mandelli. Of her unique trait, her Italian accent and heritage, she says: “Instead of hiding it, I turned it into an asset.”
