Italian artists’ depictions of their new environs on display in LA
Leo Politi. The Watts Towers.
LA’s Italian American Museum is hosting ITALIANITÀ: Italian Diaspora Artists Examine Identity exhibit. From May 5, 2018, ITALIANITÀ features art to explain and understand the Italian diaspora, the dispersion of Italian people outside of their homeland/
14 million Italians left Italy during the 19th and 20th centuries to find better opportunities. The exhibit highlights over 20 artists to portray the new identity and culture founded by Italian-Americans and their descendants. Italianità, which means Italian-ness, has art to depict the effects migration has on traditions and beliefs of Italian heritage.
Some artists include Paolo Soleri, Margaret Ricciardi, Ralph Fasnella, and Leo Politi. Artworks are in a variety of methods including drawings, paintings, and sculptures.
