On Sunday, 12 June at 9:30 pm, a beautiful open-air concert was held in the Piazza del Duomo in Milan, where spectators were welcomed to enjoy the memorizing music for free admission.

The Duomo of Milan is known for one of the world’s most magnificent Gothic architecture, and to commend Milan’s sacred landmark, the Concerto Per Milano held its annual 10th anniversary in the cathedral square. This free standing event enraptured a packed audience where they could engage and absorb the music of beauty and vitality. The event known as Concerto per Milano 2022, was brought together by musicians from the orchestra association, La Filarmonica della Scala, with Riccardo Chailly as the music director and conductor.

With the COVID pandemic, Milan’s Piazza Duomo faced two years of restrictions, but with the vibrant symphony’s performance on Sunday night, this brought hope once again as “a symbol for the return to life” according to Tommaso Sacchi, Councilor for Culture.

As stated by the Filarmonica Della Scala website, the concert began with a new commissioned piece of lively music called “Definitely Cheerful” followed by an interlude and dance from the opera “La Vida Breve,” and gave tribute to George Gershwin with famous notes from the music pieces, “An American in Paris.”  This animated atmosphere of a symphonic event transformed the heart of the city into a grandiose concert hall under the stars where sixteen thousand people could enter the square or watch it aired live.

The Duomo of Milan is a story of exchanged art and experiences spanning over 600 years, and today its architectural brilliance is heightened by the dynamic and majestic orchestral music of the night.
