On June 1, 2023, the artist Euro Rotelli presented his book “New York, Paul Auster and Me”. Tuscan-born, Rotelli spent three years in New York documenting his observations. His photos detail a story of solitude through contemporary life in New York, inspired by the works of the existential writer Paul Auster.

The literary exploration evoked a profound harmony of emotions and perceptions within him. Paul Auster’s writings dive into the anxieties and neuroses of modern individuals while seeking identity, purpose, and the significance of existence. This alternative perspective aligns with the vision Paul Auster aims to convey in his works, which Rotelli discovered and embraced through his books. Both artists understand feelings of loneliness that thrive amongst millions of souls and search for answers that prove limitless- experiences unique to New York.

Rotelli’s photography simultaneously embodies excitement and tragedy due to his style. Black and white photography allows for no distractions, showing vulnerable authenticity. It faithfully portrays the interplay of light and darkness, flaws and virtues, revealing the city with unfiltered splendor. “New York, Paul Auster and me” depicts a journey through an unconventional portrayal of New York.
