On July 2nd in Naples, Italy— local Italians, civilians of the Department of Defense and families come together to celebrate America’s Independence Day at the festival known as Festa Americana.

As a symbol of partnership between the United States and Italy, Festa Americana is annually hosted by organizations such as the Naval Support Activity (NSA) to offer visitors an experience of cultural exchange between both countries. The whole community was involved in the process to ensure the safety of others and the success of the eventful night.  This engagement included food vendors, America’s decoration colors and American rock n’ roll music in tribute to Bruce Springsteen.

The commanding officer of NSA Naples, Capt. James Stewart, commented how “it really takes a whole village to host a successful event.” With displays of Uncle Sam, visitors dressed in red, white and blue, and for many Italians— a first time experience in trying corn dogs at the American fare, it truly was a commemoration to Independence day in the United States. Kate Krusely, a teacher and military spouse, commented how “we are thrilled that we can all come together and celebrate where we live; this event teaches our children what Independence day means.”

This was the 12th year in hosting Festa Americana and the night concluded with playing the American and Italian national anthems followed by a splendid firework show to be remember.
