“Laudato Sie” Opens in Rome October 2 at Palazzo Braschi
Palazzo Braschi, Rome, is the initial location of the exhibit entitled Laudato sie; nature and science, which will subsequently be on display in Assisi in 2025. The exhibit, sponsored by the Saint Francis Day Foundation and the Italian Academy Foundation, displays a wide breadth of 800-year-old restored Franciscan manuscripts, notably the famed Canticle of Creatures.
Curatated by Fra Carlo Bottero and Prof. Paolo Capitanucci, the exhibition provides an in depth exploration of the interdisciplinary knowledge held within these manuscripts by the Franciscan brothers. Sections of the exhibit display the inquiry into topics such as astronomy, anatomy, physics, mathematics, and alchemy. Culminating in a summary section, the exhibit displays the Franciscan belief in the inherent wonder of creation.
Saint Francis of Assisi remains a widely known religious figure into modern times, as he is recognized for his unique views of the natural world. The views of Saint Francis in regard to the natural world are distinctive and hold man as a tactile image of God. This ideology extends to all of creation, resulting in a unique theology that understands the natural world as inherently expressive of the greatness of creation. Emanating from this is a theological understanding that the inquiry into mechanisms of the natural world can be seen as unproblematic and not as a challenge to the greatness of God.
The exhibit was designed by a notable creative team
Luca Piccirillo of 1AX, architect
Claudia Palmira, Rome Design Agency, art direction
Marco Capasso, CapWare, multimedia design
The show, opening October 2nd, 2024 presents the opportunity of a unique journey through history. For more information about the exhibition visit the Museo di Roma website at or laudatosie.com
