This past year, 56 of LVMH’s fashion houses were opened to the public across four continents as part of Les Journées Particulières. Many of these had never been seen from the outside, but whose methods were akin to a secret formula. With this initiative, the artisans and their very methods are there to observe and marvel at – a rare chance in the age of fast fashion to tangibly see the elaboration and expertise behind each luxury item.

Through November 4, 2018, it’s Fendi’s turn. The doors of the historic palazzo in Rome’s EUR district are opened for all to experience their design process, from conception to hand-crafted couture result. Artisans who work on each aspect of creating unique accessories and garments demonstrate their handiwork in a range of premium materials, notably animal pelts and snake skins. As part of Les Journées Particulières global initiative, Fendi is intent on no just promoting brand awareness, but attracting a new generation of artisans. An essential aspect of the Made in Italy culture, the tradition of craft is almost a cultural imperative to maintain.

Fendi has long demonstrated their commitment to local culture – with art renovations and restorations through Rome, not the least of which was the Trevi Fountain. Earlier in the year, a show entitled “F Is For” brought six young artists from around the world to Fendi’s headquarters to create what Fendi called the Ring of the Future.

LVMH’s Les Journées ParticulièresLes Journées Particulières was started in 2011 by Antoine Arnault CEO of Berluti and chairman of Loro Piana.  The goal of Les Journées Particulières is to make public the design process and to show off the LVMH’s houses which are their stores as well as design centers. LVMH opens their houses so guests can see the distinct culture of their local house as well as the experience and expertise that the designers use in the creation of their clothing. “Les Journées Particulières is designed to embody our Houses’ hospitality and energy and echoes the vital role that the act of transmitting plays for the LVMH Group: our aim is to share our diverse heritage, extensive savoir-faire and concrete innovations,” said Arnault.

Among the houses opened to the public this year were: Christian Dior, Guerlain, Chaumet and Givenchy, Fendi, Pucci and Bvlgari.
