The Met Opera celebrates the “Year of Italian Culture”
Marking the 200th year of Giuseppe Verdi’s birth, and the “Year of Italian Culture” in the US, the Metropolitan Opera in New York will offer the Met Titles in Italian, in collaboration with Dolce&Gabbana.
On October 10, 2013 the world celebrates the 200th year since the birth of Giuseppe Verdi the father of Italian Opera. Perhaps due to this occurrence, the States have donned 2013 the “Year of Italian Culture”.
The Met Titles are like digital librettos, where subtitles appear in single screen at the back of the seats. This innovation was initiated in 1995, and is available in English, German and Spanish. The Consulate General of Italy and Dolce&Gabbana, who have long supported Italian culture abroad, and have a strong love for opera, have been instrumental in this innovation on the Met’s part.
The Season will open on the 24th September with Donizzetti’s L’Elisir d’Amore, and will feature a total of 28 operas, including Verdi’s Don Carlo, Aida, Otello, Rigoletto, and La Traviata.
