Welcome Aboard, ITA Airways
Italy is saying goodbye to Alitalia, and hello to a brand new airline: ITA Airways. This change comes after Italy’s long term airline, Alitalia, went bankrupt due to an accumulation of debt that existed even before the pandemic.
ITA Airways will take its place as Italy’s new national airline. Their goal is to create an airline that is completely Italian. Everything from the airport lounges, to the ground transportation, will be made by Italian companies. Even the uniforms of the staff will be made by top Italian designers. The sky-blue planes with green, red, and white stripes is also influenced by Italy’s national sport teams. ITA Airways president, Alfredo Altavilla believes that this is an opportunity to model the new airline after the”rich and complex” Italian experience.
The airline will also be getting an interior redesign too. ITA plans on launching completely new planes that are more environmental friendly and efficient. This new fleet will start early 2022. ITA is also encouraging their staff to improve upon their board service by incentivizing customer satisfaction.
ITA Airways has some challenges ahead such as other low-cost airlines and the current global pandemic, but Altavilla remains hopeful. Their first goal is to branch out into the North America market, with flights from Rome to New York starting November 4th. With all of these new changes, ITA Airways could be the pride and joy of the skies.
