The Making of “Laudato sie”: Presentation at Palazzo Braschi
IAF Vice President Claudia Palmira presented a talk at Palazzo Braschi (Rome) about the unique process of the making of Laudato sie – from the first meetings with Pope Francis and the St Francis Day Foundation with the IAF, to witnessing the process of restoration of the manuscripts at the Abbey of Praglia, to the show’s architecture, building and multimedia.
The landmark exhibition, Laudato sie; nature and science, is on display at Palazzo Braschi until April 2025, when the 800-year-old, restored Franciscan manuscripts will be exhibited in Assisi. The exhibit, co-sponsored by the Italian Academy Foundation, brings to light a wide breadth of scientific inquiry undertaken by the Franciscan brotherhood, including topics such as astronomy, anatomy, physics, mathematics, and alchemy. In a thought-provoking summary section, Laudato sie demonstrates the Franciscan belief in the inherent wonder of creation.
Art director of the show’s branding and graphics, Claudia Palmira recounted how the show’s architect, Luca Piccirillo, visualized the materials and design, creating a distinct backdrop for the precious Franciscan manuscripts. The show’s graphic panels, colors and typographical descriptions by Palmira along with the multimedia videos by Marco Capasso, added dimension and dynamism to the exhibit. Each aspect of the show required a precise attention to detail, and all of it was custom designed for the space in this historic location.
