N.I.C.E. Film Festival 2020 To Stream Online
This year, the New Italian Cinema Events Festival USA 2020 is streaming online. The 30th edition of the festival takes place from November 14th till the 21st in New York, and from November 29th till December 6th in Philadelphia. The festival released its tickets on eventbride.org, and are available from the comfort of your living room.
NICE is a cultural association that was born in Florence in 1991 with the purpose of promoting new independent cinema outside of Italy, specially the work of young emerging directors. It offers cultural exchange with other countries in Europe, Russia and the US. This year, for the 30th edition, the US is the hosting place for the festival, and the pandemic won’t stop this from happening.
The event is supported by partners of the organization, such as la Casa Italiana Zerilli-Marimò NYU, the Italian Cultural Institute, Princeton University – department of French and Italian Studies and the Maysles Documentary Center.
The streaming festival runs all day, offering a series of live talks and discussions regarding the films. The theme of the year is ‘Cinema as a Memory’, portraying works that are capable of taking the audience on a journey back in time into the consciousness of each. Big and small stories that narrate diversity and heterogeneity with universal themes to be interpreted by anyone participating. The event lets the audience transcend into past recollections that fell into a collective forgetfulness. In other words, it will personally touch each spectator.
“This year we want to send a positive message of hope, as we reaffirm that finding new ways of making and showing Italian cinema is still possible and today even more necessary” said Viviana Del Bianco, the Art Director of the event. In difficult times, the festival reached an even wider audience due to its online transmission, a positive side of this year’s different event.
With distinct works from mostly female direction, the program includes films by Letizia Lamartire (We’ll Be Young and Beautiful), Chiara Malta (Simple Women), Michela Andreozzi (Good Girls) and documentaries by Anna Di Francisca (A World of Fashion), Cecilia Mongini (Two Forgotten Boxes – A Trip to Vietnam), and others. A message from the director follows each film.
