“The Futurist Woman” on exhibit in Foligno
The works of the little known futurist artist, Leandra Angelucci Cominazzini, are on display in Foligno, the hometown of the artist. Entitled, “A Futurist Woman”, the show is curated by Massimo Duranti and Andrea Baffoni.
The exhibition, “Leandra Angelucci Cominazzini. Una donna futurista,” is on view at the Palazzo Trinci and the Library of Foligno. It focuses on Cominazzini and works of art in the futurist style. Experimenting with different artistic expressions and styles was the key aspect to being labeled a futurist for Cominazzini.
Her breakthrough into the futuristic movement was impressive, considering the time and context of her life. However, the friendship of another painter, Benedetta Cappa, allowed Cominazzini to create a space for herself within the movement. The 1980 exhibit in Milan, “The Other half of the Avant-Garde,” she was featured alongside other undervalued female artists from the early twentieth century.
This exhibition comes 40 years after her death. Using Cominazzini’s art and documents from the Cominazzini Fund held at the Dante Alighieri Municipal Library, the curators aim to remember and share her artwork. This collection contains notes, sketches, drawings, and other documents between Cominazzini and other prominent Italian figures of the Futurism movement.
