Italy is Art: A New Cultural Platform

In an effort to allow international visitors to experience the culture of Rome, a new online platform, “ITsART” has been launched. ITsART also known as Italy is art, features virtual tours of popular museums, plays, films, and other important cultural aspects that Italy has to offer.

The platform was founded with the help of well-renowned cultural institutions such as Milan’s Scala theatre and the Pompeii archeological park. Funding for the project came from the Italian government, who donated 19 million euros to the project.

The goal of ITsART is to make Italy’s cultural treasurers easily and safely accessible in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. Many museums and other cultural institutions found virtual tours to be a solution to the decrease of in person visitors.

The site itself has three major sections: stage, sites, and stories. Currently, the “Stage” option will be streaming an orchestra concert conducted by Gianandrea Noseda on December 6th. The “Sites” section features virtual tours of popular landmarks, while the “Stories” section showcases films and documentaries. While the site offers many free options to explore, some tours and concerts have small fee.
