The exhibition “Laudato sie: Nature and Science.” closed October 12 at the Sacred Convent of St. Francis in Assisi, concluding a year-long celebration honoring the 800th anniversary of the Canticle of Brother Sun, a manuscript by St. Francis of Assisi.

Organized by the St. Francis Day Foundation with the Sacred Convent and the Italian Academy Foundation the exhibition presented 93 rare manuscripts and early printed works from the convent’s library, illustrating the deep connection between Franciscan spirituality and scientific inquiry from the Middle Ages to the modern era.

Through nine thematic sections and immersive multimedia installations, visitors explored how Franciscan scholars engaged with astronomy, mathematics, medicine, and philosophy—bridging faith and reason in their pursuit of understanding creation.

The exhibition, held in the newly reopened Papal Hall, received support from the Umbria Region, the Municipality of Assisi, and the National Committee for the Celebrations of the Eighth Centenary of St. Francis’s Death.

Although the exhibition has concluded, the Laudato sie online shop remains open, offering exhibition catalogs, art prints, and other artisan creations inspired by the manuscripts. Explore the collection here.
