White House State Dinner Honors Italy and the U.S.
President Obama’s final State dinner in office celebrated the relationship between the U.S. and Italy, with Prime Minister Renzi as its honored guest. The two leaders confirmed the unity and friendship of the two countries, as well as their shared political ideology. The dinner filled with Italian delicacies was created by chef Mario Batali. Both firsts ladies, Michelle and Agnese, wore clothing of Italian design.
There were many celebrated guests from Italy in attendance: the Italian actor Roberto Benigni, accompanied by his wife Nicoletta Braschi; Oscar-winning director Paolo Sorrentino; the designer Armani and Italian fencing champion Beatrice Vio; and the mayor of the Italian gateway city Lampedusa, Giusi Nicolini, who represented the common vision that Obama and Renzi share towards immigration.
