In Sulzano, along the eastern shore of Lake Iseo in Lombardy, a project that should raise our eyebrows and our awareness is currently in the works. Lorenzo Quinn a well accomplished Italian contemporary artist recently announced a project named ‘Your World’, that emerges from the waters of Lake Iseo.

Lorenzo Quinn’s ‘Your World’ installation is essentially be two hands holding the world above a floating walkway. It is meant to symbolize humanity’s ability to destroy or restore the planet. He announced this project with a post of his Instagram account (@lorenzoquinnartist) that has a 3D rendering of what the installation should look like.

This grand project is very overtly a response to climate change and it’s impact on rising sea levels, much like his more renowned work in Venice known as ‘Support’, which feature a set of hands emerging from Venice’s Grand Canal. However, his more subtle and impactful message is in the title ‘Your World’. Most valiant attempts to raise awareness and about climate change use the phrase ‘our world’, in an attempt to unite people from different nationalities, ethnicities, political groups and groups in general. This has yielded some positive results but has its limitations. One of these limitations is that some groups are formed by being against the very fact of climate change. Quinn’s ‘Your World’ seems to take a different approach, it subverts group biases and puts the responsibility into the individual’s hands. It highlights that regardless of where one leans on the social, global and political spectrum this is ‘your world’. The issue is in the individual’s hands and they have the power to save or heal their planet.

The installation is slated for sometime in 2022, whether or not it will be effective is yet to be seen. If anything it will at least be a welcome sight of beauty.
