Farewell, Gianluigi Colaluci, Restoration Expert of Michelangelo

The world has to say farewell one of the most important art restorers in our modern day. Gianluigi Colaluci passed away at age 92, having lived a long, fruitful, and inspiring life. So inspiring in fact that The Vatican Museums recalled his work as the “Restoration of the Century”.  

Gianluigi Colalucci directed the restoration of Michaelangelo’s frescoes, Raphael, Raphael, Giotto, Leonardo, Guido Reni, Lorenzo Lotto, Tiziano, Andrea Mantegna, Caravaggio, Guercino, Perin de Vaga and Dosso Dossi throughout his career. 

Apart from restoring important art works he was also a lecturer at leading universities, institutes and museums in Europe, The United States of America, Australia, and Japan. This makes is passing a loss for a wide, global community, that owes Colalucci debt of gratitude. Gratitude not only for his work in keeping the some of the world’s most important pieces alive, but for teaching a generation of people to continue the excellent work
