Pesaro named Italian Capital of Culture of 2024
The city of Pesaro begins to make preparations to host year-round events as the Capitale italiana della cultura – Italian capital of culture – of 2024 by the Italian Minister of Culture. Pesaro’s allocated budget of €1 million looks to organize and host this year’s festivities. Following its kickoff ceremony last Saturday, the city’s activities include more than 300 events, featuring 150 Italian and international artists, musicians, actors, journalists, and politicians.
Upcoming events include operas and workshops focused on Giachino Rossini, a 19th century composer and Pesaro local. Moreover, the city plans to exhibit photography and visual art exhibitions such as The skin underneath: decolonizing the colony, which discusses the social and racial issues of the Villa Marina Complex, in addition to its renowned Pesaro International Film Festival, alongside the national premier of Kagami by Riūichi Sakamoto and Tin Drum. Such performance combines photography, video art, and augmented reality optical devices zoom into Sakamoto’s relationship with music.
While foreign travelers seek to visit Pesaro for its upcoming cultural expositions, locals play an important role as well. ‘VolontarX’ stands out as one of the community initiatives of the city; residents and locals from all ages can help staff the forthcoming events of Pesaro with the goal of empowering their city and educating visitors about its importance.
