Along with the St Francis Day Foundation, the Italian Academy Foundation is a proud co-sponsor of the exhibit Laudato sie; nature and science show at Palazzo Braschi (Rome) and then at the Sacro Convento (Assisi).
This landmark exhibit contains the restored Franciscan manuscripts of inquisitorial texts produced by the Franciscan Brotherhood, including the seminal work, “Canticle of Brother Sun”. Laudato sie commemorates the 800-year anniversary of the death of Saint Francis by bringing to the forefront the unique theology emanating from the beliefs expressed in this work.
Through a series of nine sections, this exhibit contains manuscripts and multimedia interpretations of the Order’s inquiry and documentation into a variety of fields regarding the mechanisms of the natural world. The exhibition explores Franciscan inquiry into areas such as astronomy, mathematics, physics, alchemy, and anatomy – and concludes with the original manuscript dictated by St Francis.
One of the primary curators of the exhibition, Fra Brother Carlo Bottero, states that one of the missions of the exhibit is to find an outlook, “that truly serves man, while also serving the purposes of custodianship of our common home” (Treasured Texts, Inspired Images, 21).
The Italian Academy Foundation is proud to be a sponsor of this exhibition that presents a practice of rethinking our relationship with the natural world; a topic that is at the foreground of our shared humanity today.
Laudato sie will be at Museo di Roma until January 6th, 2025, when it will move to its exhibition in Assisi until April 2025.
