Michelangelo Project Opens in Florence
The Eternal Contemporary. Michelangelo 1475 – 2025 is the title of an ambitious project that celebrates its opening on Michelangelo’s birthday, March 6, 2025. Through the merger of the Accademia Gallery and the Bargello Museums, Florence establishes the world’s most important Michelangelo Museum. The initiative continues throughout the year and features special events and activities. This project marks the 550th anniversary of Michelangelo’s birth.
At the presentation of the project, Massimo Osanna, the Culture Ministry’s Director General of Museums, describes how the museum union guides visitors on a tour of each site and a small area located beneath the Medici Chapels. The area beneath the Medici Chapels is believed to be Michelangelo’s hideout in 1530. Educational initiatives aim to enhance accessibility to Michelangelo’s work as his figure and legacy remain to have a lasting influence amongst artists and scholars.
