Italian Ambassador Peronaci inaugurates Fortunato Depero exhibition in Washington

The Italian Ambassador to the United States, Marco Peronaci, has inaugurated the exhibition “Depero. Graphics: Between Italy and the United States,” dedicated to the Italian Futurist Fortunato Depero. The exhibition will remain on view at the Italian Embassy in Washington until January 30, 2026.

Curated by Maurizio Scudiero, director of the Depero Archive, the exhibition presents nearly fifty works, including drawings, collages, and paintings. These works underscore Fortuna Depero’s groundbreaking role in merging art, design, and communication. Ambassador Peronaci commented that the exhibition, “aims to present, through Depero’s work, an image of Italy as an inexhaustible hotbed of art and culture, a creative laboratory where tradition and innovation have always met,” he added, “Depero was also a bridge between Italy and the United States: this exhibition beautifully highlights the profound connection that has fueled mutual influence and cultural dialogue between our countries over the past century and beyond.”
This dialogue is reflected in the exhibition’s focus on Depero’s connection to the United States, specifically his stay in New York from 1928-1930. In New York, Depero created famous covers for Vanity Fair and The New Yorker, collaborated with advertising agencies and designers, and introduced Futurism to the American public.
The exhibition at the Italian Embassy can be visited by registering for the guided tours organized by the Italian Cultural Institute in Washington.
