‘Fedora’ Returns to the Met Opera After 25 Years

After a 25-year-long break, the Metropolitan Opera once again performs Umberto Giordano’s ‘Fedora’ from 1898, through the 28th of January. Soprano Sonya Yoncheva plays the title role of the 19th-century Russian princess who falls in love with the man who murdered her fiancé, Count Loris, played by the tenor Piotr Beczala. The opera is conducted by Met maestro Marco Armiliato with David McVicar as the director.

Moving from a St. Petersburg palace to a Parisian salon to a picturesque villa in the Swiss Alps, the action is staged in spectacular sets by Charles Edwards and exquisite costumes by Brigitte Reiffenstuel. The new production is expected to breathe new life into the opera of hatred and love with its focus on details and dramatic staging.
