Casa Italiana NYU to Host Launch of Women in Italian Cinema: An Inclusive Project

On October 28, NYU Casa Italiana will be hosting the launch of WICIP, the first international project dedicated to promoting Italian written, produced, and directed by women. The organization has the mission to “showcase women’s talent in cinema and promote Women Empowerment in an inclusive format”.

The WICIP project was created by Angela Prudenzi and Federico Spoletti. Angela Prudenzi is a film producer and most known for her 2020 film, With or Without You. Federico Spoletti is the co-founder and Managing Director of SUB-TI, an international subtitling company that provides audiovisual translation services all over the world. The exciting event includes a panel, two shorts, one feature, and Q&As with the directors. Yet the project is more than this launch. With dates to come, WICIP plans to host events aimed at students from various universities and film schools to further promote Italian women’s cinema in the academic world.

The organization also proudly announced that all content will be available in versions accessible to the deaf and to the blind. Alongside empowering women, WICIP also hopes to emphasize the importance of making films accessible to people with sensory disabilities in accordance with the inclusivity standards across the globe. Therefore, with all the films being fully accessible, live subtitling service will also be present and provided during panels for the benefit of deaf audiences.
