Met Opera Shop offers “Aria Scarves” by Claudia Palmira

The native New Yorker, Claudia Palmira, launches her new luxury Italian silk scarves series at the Met Opera Shop at Lincoln Center. The retail store is the first of its kind to debut the selections to the public. The special silk scarves series capture Palmira’s operatic experiences while in Box 28 at The Metropolitan Opera.

The art scarves are made of 100% Italian silk and measure 72×16 inches (182x40cm) and express the emotional sense of a famous aria. According to the artist, “Each scarf was created while listening to the operas, with the music and lyrics almost guiding the calligraphic strokes that blend into an abstract expression of their sentiment. The colors are bold–yet restrained enough to be eminently wearable, printed on 100% silk with a unique rolled hem,” she stated.

With the collection taking inspiration from the Opera, visitors will be able to choose from an array of Claudia’s favorites such as “Pace, pace”, referring to the final scene of Aida and the popular aria Nessun Dorma, from Turandot, as Calaf sings “Vincero”, to conclude the aria. Others in the series are dedicated to Madama Butterfly, La Traviata, and Tosca, among others. All these specific musical pieces contain a calligraphic gesture that melds into abstraction, echoing the emotions of the music.

Claudia Palmira is proudly the Vice Chairman of the Italian Academy Foundation, Inc. and editor of the foundation’s Italian Journal magazine.
