On October 27, 2016 at the headquarters of the United Nations in New York, the Special Rapporteur to the UN Karima Bennoune presented: “Time to End Intentional Destruction of Cultural Heritage: A Human Rights Call to Action.” The discussion was co-organized by the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and the United Nations Special Rapporteur in the field of cultural rights.

Placido Domingo, the president of the pan-European Federation for Cultural Heritage, Europa Nostra, delivered a powerful video message on behalf of this important mission of cultural rights.

Domingo said, “Cultural heritage does not belong to a person, a group, a culture, a religion, a country, or a civilization. We are a family, a tribe, a race to live on a fragile planet in a spiral outside just one of billions of galaxies out there. This means that we have a shared responsibility for this planet. ”

The destruction of all forms of art work is a crime that affects the young generations, who may be deprived of important sources of hope and connection between the past, the present and the future.
