Milan’s most prestigious opera house announced the performance of Don Carlo composed by the admirable Italian composer Giuseppe Verdi. The first performance will take place on December 30th at Teatro della Scala wrapping up the holiday season and 2023. Tickets are available on the Teatro della Scala website and can be purchased directly through the ticket office.

Giuseppe Verdi is well known for the composition of classic operas such as Shakespear’s Macbeth and Mark Twain’s Joan of Arc. Verdi’s Don Carlo is a grand opera based on the tragedy Don Carlo Infant Von Spanien by Friedrich Schiller. The libretto was scripted by Joseph Méry and Camille du Locle in 1867 and was first performed in Paris during the springtime. The grand opera was further introduced to other European cities such as London and Bologna later that year.

Don Carlo is set in the 16th century and follows the political and personal conflicts amongst Spanish Nobility. The grand opera explores the complex yet emotional dynamic of love and power while creating an allure through political intrigue.
