‘The Leopard’ an Ambitious Italian Series

The Leopard, a new Italian Netflix seriespremiered in Rome on March 3, 2025, following a grand black-tie event. The series was released globally on March 5, with all six episodes streaming at once. In the frescoed ballroom of Rome’s central Hotel Plaza, Netflix held a press conference for the series, which many people attended. The series explores themes of power, love, progress, and struggles of aristocracy in the 19th century. This highly sought-after limited series is based on Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa’s 1958 novel. The novel is set in Sicily against the backdrop of a social revolution. It is Netflix’s most ambitious Italian production yet. “We’ve made a sumptuous and emotionally-charged show that captures the current timeliness of the novel,” said Eleonora Andreatta, Netflix VP of Italian originals.

The series features roles played by Deva Cassel, Kim Rossi Stuart, Saul Nanni, and Benedetta Porcaroli. The series is a reimagined modern take on the Sicilian saga that was adapted into a three-hour film by Luchino Visconti. Tom Shankland is the lead director of this visually stunning series. Sicilian cities such as Palermo, Catania, and Siracusa were among some of the places they filmed.
