Every six months, the Fiera del Coterie showcases companies from all over the world and is one of the most important international events in fashion. From February 20-23, the Italian Trade Agency (ITA) sponsored many Italian brands in women’s clothing and accessories at the exhibition held in New York. The ITA’s involvement in Coterie demonstrates the agency’s commitment to sponsoring Italian fashion companies since the Covid 19 pandemic.

Director Antonino Laspina confirms, “ITA is committed to supporting our brands and is strongly involved, not only in an economic sense, but also emotionally. It’s a joy to support their victories and we’ve seen some notable ones lately.”

The stands at the exhibition increased by a third compared to last September, and many Italian brands showcased their designs to the American market. Designer Maurizio Miri from Brescia displayed jackets and suits designed with elements made exclusively in Italy.  Salvatore Martorana showcased high-quality Sicilian cashmere as part of the Nuvola line, a precious outerwear collection made in double cashmere. The Lazio designer Giada Curti, who is already present in several US boutiques, displayed luxurious evening garments, floral print silk and pastel lurex skirts.  The Neapolitan brand Artigiano del Guanto was also present at Coterie for the second time. Each design of artisan gloves is handmade using ancient techniques like leather stretching and stitching. The Mela Jewelry brand is also known for their craftsmanship and high-quality semi-precious stones like baroque pearls to make sustainable creations.  Another sustainable brand on showcase was a Friulian footwear brand RE49 that makes designs entirely with recycled materials such as boat sail material to car interior fabrics. This was the brand’s first time being presented at Coterie.

“In the last ten years, the United States has returned to buy from us, thanks to the strengthening of the logistics system together with consistency in marketing messaging” ITA Director Laspina adds. The ITA’s next event will be a traveling roadshow across the US in collaboration with Designers & Agents and Brand Assembly in March.
