The 44th edition of the Ryder Cup took place in Rome last weekend at the Marco Simone Golf & Country Club. This was the first edition scheduled to take place in Italy, deeming it a significant milestone in Italian history.

The Ryder Cup is a prestigious golf tournament established in 1927, consisting of teams from Europe and the United States. Each team is made up of 12 individuals from the United States or Europe. The sporting event occurs biennially with alternating venues. The highly regarded golf tournament consists of a 3-day ordeal that promotes sportsmanship within a global community.

The idea for the Ryder Cup was formulated during a conversation on a transatlantic cruise aboard the RMS Aquitania in 1920. Wealthy entrepreneur Samuel Ryder and professional golfer Abe Mitchell discussed the possibility of organizing a golf competition between teams from Great Britain and the United States. Samuel Ryder was inspired by the idea of promoting international unity and fostering friendly competition in the sport of golf. Ryder offered to donate a gold trophy for the competition, which is still used today. The first Ryder Cup match took place in 1927 at Worcester Country Club in Worcester, Massachusetts, USA.

Last weekend, Europe officially reclaimed the title for the Ryder Cup 2023, winning 16.5 to 11.5 against the United States on the 72-par course.
